• Victorian Poets.

The most important poets during the early Victorian period were Tennyson & Browning with Arnold occupying a somewhat lower position.The early Victorian poetry which started in 1833, therefore, came to its own in the year 1842. Alfred Tennyson and Browning both are major poets of the Victotian Age. Minor poets of the Victorian Age like…Elizabeth Barrett, Rossetti, Mrs. Browning, Swinburn.

1).Alfred Tennyson.

·      Born: 1809.

·      Died: 1892.

·      Occupation: Poet.

Tennyson is the most important poet of the Victorian poet.His poetry is a record of the intellectual & spiritual life of the time.

·     His Works.

1).“ The Princess ”.

2). “a Medley ”.

Both are long poem over three thousand lines of blank verse.

·       Tennyson is the master of imaginative description which is seen at its best in “The Lotos Easter “.

·      Some of his shorter pieces such as…

·      “Break, break ,break ”,Tear, idle tears”, “ Bugle Song”.

2).Robert Browning.

·      Born: 1812.

·      Died: 1889.

·      Occupation: Poet.

He was another poet of Victorian poet .Browning & Tennyson were contemporaries & their poetic career ran almost parallet to each other , but as poets they presented a glaring contarast.

·     His Works.

Some of his best known volumes like…..

1). “ Dramatic Lyrics”

2). “ Dramatic Romances and Lyrics ”

3). “Men and Women ”

4). “ Dramatic perona ”
